About Sankrant

Makkar sankrant is celebrated with great fervour in Jaipur. The festival of kites is celebrated across the city where everyone, big or small, rich or poor, all come together and play in this game of kite flying. The whole city seems to have moved to the terrace on this day and one can barely see the sky. Its full of kites. Special treats made of sesame seeds are made along with fritters and samosas. In this terrace suite, kites made of Belgian coloured glass and mirror adorn the walls, hand painted kites are made on the three feet running border along the walls. Two miniature paintings made by celebrated miniature artist Riyazuudin show Krishna and Radha flying kites. Amongst the 36 prominent crafts introduced by the founding Maharaja of Jaipur 300 years ago, kite making or Patangbazi is amongst the original 36 crafts. This craft of making hand made kites with intricate designs is a 300 year old craft that has not only survived the test of time, but found favour with the current generation. The private terrace attached to the room is full of seasonal blooming flowers.
