About Utsav
As the name suggests, utsav means a festival. The poinsettia red on the walls, juxta positioned with the three feet charcoal grey surround border adds to the drama in this room. The main feature walls has a hand painted picture of baby Krishna, in gold, on his cradle and all around him and in front of him are his numerous toys, kept to keep the young infant entertained. My favourite childhood memory of going to the temple of Nathdwara is visiting the shrine of the baby infant krishna, lovingly called “Laadle Laal” every morning hundreds of toys made of gold and silver would be kept in front of his cradle and the priests would play with each one. Amongst the toys were, silver and gold elephants, lions, tigers, parrots, peacocks, rattles, tops, marry go rounds etc. it seemed so real and felt as if the tiny idol of infant krishna is actually playing with his toys.
